Moket is a new Australian company
on the scene that's pioneering novel ways to develop
and use Flash Lite content on mobile devices such
as mobile phones, personal digital assistants and
other consumer electronics devices.
In fact, Moket was the first Australian company
dedicated solely to developing Adobe® Flash® Lite™ content for
these devices, with ground-breaking applications and
ideas that cover a wide range of products including
games, personalised content, mobile tools and applications.
Flash Lite is the Adobe Flash player created specifically
to allow Flash developers to bring the rich user experience
(including video and interactive content) from the
web browser to the small screen.
To speed adoption of Flash Lite technology, Moket
has quickly developed a network of production and
distribution partners who work with the growing global
market sectors that support Flash technology. To date,
Moket products have been licensed for distribution
and preinstallation on handsets in several regions
around the world including the US, Taiwan and Singapore.
Moket's CEO and founder, Dale Rakine, started the
company in late 2004 after a number of years managing
his own web development studio.
"I've been working with Flash and interactive
media for the past 10 years, in various web development
roles," says Dale.
"When I got involved with web design, Flash technology
was just emerging, but it really caught my attention.
I started developing with Flash and it became my main
tool of choice."
"In 2004, I recognised the huge potential Flash
Lite has in the mobile device market space: its launch
onto the mobile platform was exciting. I could see
that Flash Lite content was just beginning to make
its mark around the world."
Soon after that, Dale founded Moket and quickly took
steps to promote Flash Lite development in Australia.
"Unfortunately Australia is a bit behind in the
market compared with early Flash Lite adopters in Japan,
Korea and North America, when you compare the number
of Flash devices in circulation," says Dale.
"However, the opportunity to grow the market
in Australia is huge: it's just a matter of time
before we have more manufacturers, distributors and
network carriers that support and use the technology
here."
To encourage the use of Flash Lite in Australia, Dale
is developing relationships with two major carrier
networks and believes that, in time, Flash technology will
be entrenched in our everyday lives through mobile
devices.
Dale is also a Certified Flash Lite Instructor and
Developer, and manages the Australian Adobe Mobile
and Devices User Group.

"We're in the early
days, but the market is starting to shift into gear,"
says Dale.
To round out his work in Australia, Dale works with
international clients, helping content aggregators
and distributors, mobile carriers, device manufacturers
and content owners implement Flash Lite content with
application and game product development, publishing
and training services.
Dale is also a regular presenter at the webDU conference
on the topic of Flash Lite, as well as the Adobe MAX conferences.
"Flash Lite offers developers and content
owners a superior platform for the delivery of content
on the mobile platform," says Rekine.
"This year at the Adobe MAX 2007 conference in
Chicago, I'll team with Boston-based Flash Lite technologist
Alessandro Pace to deliver a presentation on the Top
20 Tricks for Improving Flash Lite Development,"
says Dale.
In the session, Dale and Alessandro will provide developers
with little-known ideas and tips to increase their
Flash Lite skills, learn best practices, and gain
insight into where Flash trends are heading.
"I believe Flash Lite offers developers and content
owners a superior platform for the delivery of content
on the mobile platform, when compared with other technologies,"
adds Dale.
Dale says the main advantages to developers and their
customers include a rapid coding and deployment environment,
the ability to leverage skills based in traditional
Flash development, the ability to work with proven
Flash technology in the web-based player, and the
ability to create multi-purposed content on several
types of mobile devices.
"Our entire business is based on Adobe products
and the Flash Lite platform. If it weren't there,
we wouldn't have a business!"
